FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
The following are answers to several frequently asked questions. We also encourage you to visit our About Us page and read why The Pulse is the best choice for you and your child when it comes to quality instruction, curriculum, our facility, and customer service!
Q: When do classes start?
A: Our calendar mirrors the school year, so our regular session runs from September through May with our spectacular annual recital directly following. We also have summer camps and a shorter 6-week session during the summer months. We accept enrollment for our regular session through January.
Q: How do I enroll?
A: Enrollment at The Pulse is quick and easy! Simply print the Registration Packet and bring to the studio. Packets can also be faxed to (816) 222-0676, mailed to the studio, or placed through the mail slot in our front door. A Registration Packet must be filled out and tuition must be paid prior to the first class. There is an annual non-refundable registration fee of $25 per student / $15 for siblings. Registration is valid for the entire regular session. Our class schedule and registration packet can be found here.
Q: How do I pay tuition?
A: Tuition is paid monthly. Tuition is based on 9 monthly installments (Sept-May) and payments remain the same each month regardless of the student's attendance, school closures, or holidays. Tuition is processed through Autopay (direct withdrawal from a debit or credit card account) and customers receive a $5 monthly discount for choosing this payment method. Charges are automatically deducted on the third of the month. For tuition not paid through Autopay, the discount does not apply and tuition rates are $5 higher per month. Siblings receive 10% off tuition and additional siblings receive 20% off tuition! For more details and rates visit our Tuition page.
Q: Will I receive a monthly statement?
A: Nearly all of our families use Autopay, and it is highly encouraged and recommended and tuition is discounted by $5. If you choose not to use Autopay, you add $5 to the monthly tuition rates; we do not mail invoices or statements and tuition is due the same time each month: on the 1st, but not considered late until after the 10th. After the 10th, a $10 late fee is automatically added to your account. Any checks that are returned for any reason results in The Pulse being charged a $35 bank fee, which will in turn be charged to your account.
Q: How do you communicate upcoming due dates and activities
going on at the studio?
A: We communicate by e-mail. An e-mail address that is checked regularly is required on the Registration Packet. Our newsletter, The Beat, is also sent via e-mail and includes updates and dates for the entire year. Please keep it handy and utilize this as a tool to make all payments by their due dates, and to know when important items are happening with the students.
Q: Where do I purchase my dancewear and shoes?
A: The Pulse sells the basics for class like tights, leotards, and shoes. Our Dress Code is available here, and is also available at the studio.
Q: Do I get to watch my child in class each week?
A: As part of our state of the art facility, we are proud to offer live feeds from the classrooms through our closed circuit monitoring! Weekly classes are closed to visitors and guests, but parents are invited to observe classes at the studio during our three Watch Weeks. These are a great opportunity to see what goes on in class and see how students are progressing. We also have viewing windows that parents can look into the classroom at any time. We also offer Bring-A-Friend weeks, and these are a great chance to bring friends to class who might be interested in taking class with their friend! They participate for free their first time.
Q: Will my child get to participate in the year-end recital?
A: Yes! All students are featured in the show, and it is a wonderful way to cap off the year. Students love taking pictures in their costumes, prepping for the show, participating in the group rehearsals at the studio and theatre, and showing off what they have learned. It gives them something to work towards, and they enjoy performing with their classmates and friends that they have taken class with all year. Our recitals have many benefits for the student and parent alike and they are a wonderful community event! We are proud to offer Kansas City’s most unique recital experience! Our annual production is an original story written by the staff and brought to life by our talented students! See video clips and learn about our unique recitals here!
Q: What should I do if my child will be absent from class?
A: You can e-mail or call the studio. Students are expected to be in attendance and on time for all classes. If class is missed, make-ups are not required for recreational students, but students have a month to make-up missed classes if they wish. Students should ask their instructors for the appropriate make-up class. All students must be in their classes and recital rehearsals in the weeks leading up to recital. As routines are finalized and the show comes together it is very important for the teachers to have all students in class.
Q: How do I know what class my child should be in?
A: Students are placed in classes based on ability, and not necessarily by age. We may move a student at any age to better suit their level and ability, and this can happen during the first couple weeks of classes. When you come to the studio to enroll, our teachers will discuss the perfect placement for your child.
Q: What happens when there is bad weather–are classes still held?
How will I know if class is cancelled?
A: When the studio closes for bad weather, we take three steps: we send an e-mail, place an announcement on the website, and update the voice-mail.
Q: Is the studio closed for all the same holidays as our school?
A: The Pulse calendar is similar to school calendars; however, we are not closed for every school holiday such as Presidents Day or Martin Luther King Day. We are also not closed for teacher in-service days, conferences, and other school closings of this nature. If we are closed for a holiday or break, it is listed in the monthly newsletter as well as on the website Calendar which can be found here.
